Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas was cleared to practice today after passing his physical. Thomas is expected to start his conditioning and return to game form by the third or fourth preseason game. After removing Thomas off the PUP list the Seahawks have one more safety they need to deal with in Kam Chancellor except his absence is a message.
Thomas's absence was already a huge blow to the team however it is multiplied by Kam Chancellor's holdout. To make matters worse Thomas has not spoken to Chancellor in days suggesting that he could be determined to hold out well into the regular season. Chancellor still has three years left on his deal but with all the contract restructuring that has gone on with the Seahawks he saw this as an opportunity to make more money. Pete Carroll stated
"It's an issue of concern..... it's an issue of concern, particularly for Kam. Here we have to keep moving and he knows that what we are called upon to do and so we're going to do that. But it's a difficult time for him."
Not having Kam Chancellor for the first part of the season would seriously disrupt the Legion of Boom, but at least the Seahawks got one of their star safeties back.
