New York Jets News and Rumors: Defensive Back Suffers Major Injury In Training Camp

Aug 07, 2015 04:01 PM EDT

New York Jet's defensive back Antonio Allen suffered a non-contact Achilles injury in practice. He injury seemed a lot like the one suffered by DB Dee Milliner that has held him back from developing into the superstar cornerback the Jets were hoping he'd be.

The Jets feared the worst, and their fears were realized after tests showed that Allen suffered a torn Achilles tendon. Allen is a part of the Jets new revamped secondary and can play in as a free safety or a cornerback.

His versatility has been somewhat of a boon for the team since first round pick Calvin Pryor has struggled to live up to expectations.  Allen was forced to play corner for most of last season after the Jet's secondary was decimated in free agency.

He was not listed as a starter however the ability to play multiple positions including special teams was something that the Jets valued highly. This injury obviously rules him out for the season and considering he was in the final year of his contract he could possibly never play as a Jet again. He has blocked two punts in his career with the Jets and returned a pick six for a touchdown against hated rivals, the Patriots.
