First pitch is just minutes away as the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers meet up for Game 3 of the ALCS.
For the Yankees, it will be about staying alive. They are not down 0-3, but if they lose tonight they will be. The Tigers will definitely try to tighten the noose on the Yankees.
With Justin Verlander on the mound, the Yankees' chances of winning look dim. Verlander usually struggles in the playoffs, but he has only allowed one run in 16 innings pitched while striking out 22 players in the postseason.
The Yankees have not hit well and they face a Verlander has been unhittable.
Questions of starting CC Sabathia have surfaced, but Yankees' manager Joe Girardi has decided to keep him on regular rest and will be reserved for Game 4.
If the Yankees win tonight in Game 3, the Yankees could then come back and win Game 4 with Sabathia on the mound.
The Yankees have won seven of the eleven last games that Verlander has pitched in.
Girardi has made gutsy calls in the past, but he will not budge on Sabathia's case.
On the hill in Game 3 for the Yankees will be Phil Hughes. He has only allowed one run in 6.2 innings pitched. He threw against the Baltimore Orioles and got the no decision.
