NFL Rumors: NY Jets, Michael Vick Deal Denied, Mike Glennon, Kirk Cousins Trade Options After Geno Smith Injury as Rex Grossman Target for Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty

With Geno Smith officially out of the picture for the time being, the New York Jets will be forced to consider adding a quarterback to the rotation. Right now the franchise has just Ryan Fizpatrick and potentially Bryce Petty capable of starting right away after Smith suffered a broken jaw in a locker room fight. As a result, the Jets are preparing to bring in a few quarterbacks for workouts in the coming days, but fans should not expect Michael Vick to be one of them.

Vick spent last season backing up Smith and seeing some brief time as the starter. Vick has stressed that he is healthy and ready to play a few more years in the NFL while he sits on the free agent market waiting for a contract. However, NFL Media's Rand Getlin is reporting that the Jets have no interest in bringing Vick back on a contract. Getlin is reporting that "both sides determined it wasn't the right fit."

Right now, Vick is the best quarterback on the free agent market. He has the most success to his name and yet no team is really considering him as an option so far. If the Jets get desperate, they could easily change their mind about the veteran, but for now they are aiming to find someone a little more familiar with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's system. Is that Rex Grossman?

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets have reached out to Grossman who most recently spent time with the Cleveland Browns. Grossman has no previous experience with either head coach Todd Bowles or Gailey, so the interest is an bit odd, but general manager Mike Maccagnan is familiar with the quarterback which could be driving a deal. The Jets are also reportedly keeping an eye on Tyler Thigpen who worked with Gailey in the Buffalo Bills system.

Could a trade be the better option for New York? According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Mike Glennon could be available as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare to move on with Jameis Winston as their starting quarterback. Kirk Cousins or Colt McCoy could also be an option as the Washington Redskins make Robert Griffin III the starter for the 2015 season. All three quarterback options have seen time as a starter and could easily help the Jets get past the Smith injury.

For now, Bowles is very confident in Ryan Fitzpatrick to get the job done. The Jets traded for the former Houston Texans quarterback, but never envisioned him as the starter Week 1. However, Fitzpatrick has the intangibles to be successful for the Jets and win games. Everyone on the team has confidence in the veteran.

"I understand that the opportunities are few and far between and I understand that my time in this league is probably limited in terms of getting these opportunities, so I'm going to take advantage of every single day and every single rep that I can get out there," Fitzpatrick said, via the Daily News.
