The LA Lakers are rounding out their roster for camp and players like Michael Frazier and Jonathan Holmes have signed deals and they likely will compete with Tarik Black, Jabari Brown, Robert Upshaw and whoever else comes with training camp invites for the final roster spots in Los Angeles this season to join Kobe Bryant, Roy Hibbert, D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams.
The Lakers have brought in Jonathan Holmes on a deal already and now reports have Michael Frazier getting a contract as well. According to Michael Scotto at Sheridan Hoops, Frazier is coming in on a two year deal that is partially guaranteed. RealGM reported last week that Holmes was signed as an undrafted player and he too is on a deal that is partially guaranteed. Shams Charania reported that the deal for Holmes has a "significant partial" on it.
Last week Marc Stein and David Pick reported that the Lakers were looking at Bobby Brown, Toure Murry, Eric Moreland and Sean Kilpatrick in workouts. Those players also could be options to come into camp for the Lakers, which will be in Hawaii this year. Frazier is a guard and he could be a solid option to make the roster, as the team would have some insurance if they end up trading Nick Young. Frazier comes in after averaging over 12 points and four rebounds per game for the Florida Gators in college.
The contract reportedly has $50,000 guaranteed, according to the LA Times. Former NBA executive Bobby Marks wrote on Twitter that Frazier could end up in the D-League with the D-Fenders for the Lakers if he doesn't make the roster. Marks added that players like Frazier, Holmes, Tarik Black and Jabari Brown could be competing for the final "2-3 roster spots" for the Lakers.
Marks writes that Robert Upshaw is also "possibly" in the mix. Mitch Kupchak previously said that he was unsure if Upshaw would factor into things for the Lakers this season. The Lakers have had some past success with the D-League in finding players and now they could go that route again with some of the players that don't make it in camp. Upshaw has not yet been signed to a deal, per the LA Times.

The Lakers may also look at adding someone at the guard position, as the team reportedly worked out Bobby Brown along with Toure Murry and one of those players or someone else on the free agent market could fit for depth behind Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell. During the season the team reportedly was interested in trading Jeremy Lin or Jordan Hill for a point guard, but that did not end up happening. Players like Goran Dragic, Deron Williams, Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings were potential targets, but the team did not make major moves.
The team reportedly looked into a deal for Ty Lawson, but he ended up getting traded to the Rockets. Lakers, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics came into the offseason with cap space, but the Lakers/Knicks could not convince Goran Dragic to sign after his trade to Miami. Rajon Rondo was on the market and was previously traded last season to the Mavericks, but he ended up signing with the Kings.
