The Giants had a very brutal day during their first preseason game losing a few starters but most notably in the secondary.
The first injury came when Thompson was handling punt coverage against the Cincinnati Bengals. Thompson tore his Achilles and just like that the fifth round draft picks season was over. Thompson just collapsed and eventually carted off however the Giants feared the worst when they saw the play and the non-contact injury.
The Giants wanted Thompson to replace the injured Nat Berhe who suffered a torn calf muscle in training camp.
The Giants are spectacularly thin at their secondary positions and it seems as if every player has been injured at least once. Thompson had picked up the playbook relatively quickly and the Giants hoped to parlay Berhe's loss with some positive production from Thompson.
Losing both players in the process did not seem like a possibility, but the worst has happened. The Giants also suffered injuries to Landon Collins, Jayron Hosley with a possible concussion, and Trumaine McBride with a hamstring injury, which is absolutely devastating to their defense.
The Giants signed Brandon Meriweather in order to replace Thompson and Berhe.
