Thursday Night Football Schedule and Predictions: 49ers Will Trump Seahawks

Oct 18, 2012 11:56 AM EDT

The San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 of Thursday Night Football. Following a disappointing loss to the New York Giants, I predict that the 49ers will defeat the Seahawks in this matchup.

This will certainly be a game that will have little offense. The defenses might put up more points than the offenses in this one.

Coming into the game, the 49ers are ranked 1st allowing the fewest total yards per game (275.8), 2nd fewest in passing yards (183.2), 3rd in points allowed (15.7) and 9th in rushing yards allowed (92.7).

The Seahawks are slightly better in points allowed ranking 2nd in the NFL (15.5 points per game), they have allowed the 2nd fewest rushing yards per game (70) and the 4th fewest total yards in the league (294.7).

The reason why I give the 49ers the advantage is because the Seahawks do not defend the passing game well giving up, on average, 224 yards through the air. This means, though they do a good job of pressuring quarterbacks, when QBs complete passes, they are getting big plays off.

Though I do not trust Alex Smith, I trust the Seahawks' offense a lot less. Sorry Seahawks fans, I know you guys are tired of hearing Russell Wilson get criticized, but the offense is mediocre.

They are 5th worst team in points averaged (18.5), 4th worst in total yards averaged (300.7) and 2nd worst in passing yards (169.7).

The Seahawks are all about their defense and their running game. The Giants showed that a consistent running game can find holes in the Niners' defense. That will be the Seahawks' only hope.

Scheduled Time: Game is set to kickoff a little after 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

Score Prediction: Expect a grudge match between the two teams and a lot of field goals. 19-13 49ers.
