The NY Yankees have placed Bryan Mitchell on the concussion disabled list on Tuesday after the pitcher suffered a facial fracture and other injuries after being hit in the face by a line drive against the Minnesota Twins.
Mitchell was called up to make the start and he was hit in the face with the baseball and had to leave the field while bleeding from his face. According to Hardball Talk, Mitchell was placed on the seven-day DL for concussions and he was diagnosed with a nasal fracture injury after being in the hospital overnight. Mitchell could be back for the final month of the season if he is not seriously injured. Mitchell was 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA for the Yankees.
The Yankees remain in first place in the AL East and the team is 66-52 after winning against the Twins on Tuesday. The team went up in the game on Tuesday after a grand slam from Alex Rodriguez, which put the score at 5-4 before the team won the game 8-4 in the Bronx. Rodriguez had not had a hit in his last 18 at-bats and it was his 25th home run of the season.
