The NY Knicks are reportedly interested in a trade for Jamal Crawford and Jose Calderon could be getting trade interest of his own from the LA Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves this summer and this comes as New York may look at a deal with the Wolves for Ricky Rubio if the teams end up trading players before the season starts.
The Knicks reportedly have interest in Clippers guard Jamal Crawford and that talk has Jose Calderon entering the trade rumor mill this summer. According to Pro Basketball Talk, Calderon hinted on social media that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers are interested in making a deal for him. The Knicks have previously been mentioned as being interested in Rubio and that could open the door for a deal with the Timberwolves.
Frank Isola at the NY Daily News reported on Tuesday that the Knicks have "expressed interest" in trading for Crawford and the team could use Calderon to try and get a deal done. The Knicks would have to be a little creative and likely take back some salary to make the deal work, but the team reportedly is interested in making at least one major move before the season starts. Crawford's role in LA has diminished with all the signings the team has made and reports have the Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat as teams interested in making a trade.
Calderon responded to a tweet about the Wolves and Clippers being options for a deal and if the Knicks look at Crawford, Calderon could head to LA. The Clippers have other options as well, as the team could look at Mario Chalmers or Chris Andersen with the Miami Heat to get a deal done. The Cavs reportedly are interested in Crawford if they can't get a deal done with JR Smith and at this point it's likely Crawford will be moved this summer.
The Timberwolves and Rubio would be an intriguing option, as the Wolves have solid depth at point guard now with Andre Miller, Tyus Jones and Zach LaVine along with Rubio. The Knicks have long kept tabs on Rubio and according to a report in Gigantes, the Knicks are interested and could look at Rubio as an option if they trade Calderon. The team wants to add another player to the mix behind Jerian Grant and Langston Galloway and if Calderon is traded, Rubio could come to NY in the deal. Rubio has dealt with injuries in the past and he has not yet reached his potential for the Wolves.
Calderon has another year on his deal after this and while he dealt with injuries last season, he could be a solid option for minutes behind Chris Paul, Austin Rivers and Pablo Prigioni. Last season Calderon played in 42 games and averaged 9.1 points per game and 4.7 assists per game and the Knicks would love to bring back something of value for the point guard. Last season the team wanted to trade Calderon, but injuries hampered Phil Jackson in finding a deal.
