Miami Dolphins Rumors and News: Louis Delmas Suffers Torn ACL In Training Camp Practice With Panthers

Aug 19, 2015 03:43 PM EDT

The starting defensive back for the Dolphins, Louis Delmas suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during a joint practice with the Panthers.

The Dolphins were hoping Delmas could be the guy who solidifies this secondary.  The former safety for the Lions player suffered the same injury last year in the same exact knee. Two ACL tears in back to back seasons is not good for any player let alone a defensive back who relies on his speed and quickness. Now the Dolphins will have to rely on strong safety Reshad Jones to become the leader of their secondary.

The Dolphins will have to rely on Walt Aikens and Michael Thomas to cover the back end while Delmas is out. The Dolphins did draft some help in the secondary in the 2015 NFL draft, but they certainly thought they had more time to develop the rookies.

Free safety Cedric Thompson and cornerback Bobby McCain were both drafted in the fifth round so how much they can help the team is still unknown. The Dolphins will need every player in their secondary to step up after an injury like this. With the regular season only a couple of weeks away the Dolphins will not have a lot of time to prepare Delmas's backup.
