Cleveland Browns 2014 1st round pick, Justin Gilbert suffered a mild injury in a joint practice with the Buffalo Bills.
The Browns 2014 draft has become somewhat of a joke, largely in part to Gilbert and their other 1st round pick Johnny Manziel. Gilbert struggled in practice on Monday against Bill's wide receivers and has yet to fully earn his first round draft pick status.
It is hard to imagine how the Browns feel about Gilbert considering late round draft picks are outshining him. The Browns are currently reeling from injuries in the secondary; Cornerbacks Pierre Desir, Joe Haden, Robert Nelson, and K'Waun Williams all sat out with various injuries. Starting free safety Tashaun Gipson also was sitting out with an injured calf. Head coach Mike Pettine stated,
"We have a protocol, our guys have to be professional and handle their business and stick to it. You don't want to panic and just jump off and do something radically different and then it gets worse. We believe in what we do and we have to make sure we are all complying with it as well."
The Browns simply cannot afford to have 4 out of their 5 starting corners injured as the season is about to begin. The younger players like Desir and Gilbert need these reps to hone their technique, so these injuries should set the Brown's secondary back quite a bit.
