New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith will miss the remainder of the preseason as he tends to an Achilles injury, but the Knicks list him as out with an ankle injury.
The New York Post reported that Smith is now wearing a protective boot on his left foot, didn't practice Thursday with the team and will miss the team's three-game preseason road trip.
Smith had returned to practice Tuesday, but Knicks coach Mike Woodson said he needs more rest. The Knicks have not said if Smith is staying back to have an MRI exam.
The Knicks are already without shooting guard Iman Shumpert (recovering from ACL surgery) and swingman Ronnie Brewer is just returning from a minor knee surgery of his own, so Smith's injury comes at a bad time.
With Smith out, Brewer can potentially get some playing time during the teams three road games.
Brewer, who had left knee surgery in early September, has yet to scrimmage. The likelihood of him playing won't be expected until Monday's game against the 76ers.
Other injury concerns for the Knicks would be the injuries of Amar'e Stoudemire and Marcus Camby.
