Buffalo Bills Rumors and News: Tyrod Taylor Gets Long Look at QB, Battles With Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel To Start?

Aug 21, 2015 02:14 PM EDT

During Thursday's preseason game with the Browns, Tyrod Taylor was given an extended look as the starting quarterback.

Taylor shined going 7/10 from the field, throwing for 65 yards, 4 rushes, and 41 yards. Taylor moved the Bills down the field without any of their starting wide receivers or running backs. This heats up the Bills starting quarterback competition especially after Rex Ryan's decision to sit Matt Cassel during the 2nd preseason game.

EJ Manuel finished off the contest going 9/14 from the field for 111 yards and a touchdown. Considering Manuel was recently moved to the bottom of the depth chart this is a very strong performance for him.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan could have a tough decision to make before the first game of the regular season. All three quarterbacks have been effective in some way and have different sets of skills. Taylor is more of a mobile quarterback that can get first downs with his legs and is very mobile outside of the pocket.

Manuel can do similar things just on a smaller scale, his accuracy leaves something to be desired for but if he can put up a consistent performances like he did last night he could contribute heavily to the Bill's success. Cassel is the prototypical pocket passer.

He likes to throw short passes and dink and dunk his way up the field. He does have very high accuracy but he is not getting into a throwing competition with anyone. Rex Ryan definitely has a tough decision on his hands but whichever quarterback he chooses will take a back seat to his run heavy approach.
