Greg Hardy will be a free agent in 2016, so should the Cowboys consider extending the pass rusher before the regular season gets going to save some money?
Hardy has looked great in camp, knocking off most of the rust that had accumulated throughout his suspension. Hardy instantly gives this defense a different look and attitude every time he is on the field. If Hardy posts huge sack totals this season the Cowboys may not be able to afford him. Hardy is due to command a large contract especially if he has a good season and does not get injured.
The Cowboys have already signed their biggest offensive contract problem in Dez Bryant now they must contend with the defensive side of the ball. Tyrone Crawford will also need a new contract and depending on how his season goes he could also be in for a big raise as well. Crawford has shown a ton of talent working from the inside of the defensive line, much like Hardy.
The Cowboys could possibly keep both but their free agent moves could be very limited if they do. The Cowboys certainly want to keep Hardy around but they will have a better chance if they sign him early.
