Oregon State is in the midst of a dream season.

The Beavers are currently ranked No. 8 in the nation and are 5-0 after a dominating 42-24 win against Brigham Young last Saturday. The team has been extremely efficient on offence this season, passing for over 330 yards per game.

Quarterback Sean Mannion has been solid for the Beavers this season, but will miss time after hurting his knee against Washington State. Last week Cody Vaz got his first career start against Brigham Young, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.

"I don't think anybody in our locker room was particularly surprised Cody played well," said coach Mike Riley. "I think they've had faith in him as a teammate for a long time."

According to ESPN.com, the Beavers are attempting to go 6-0 for the first time since the 1907 season.

Utah has struggled this season in the Pac-12, going 0-3 and scoring only 22 points per game. Freshman quarterback Travis Wilson had a rough game last Saturday against UCLA, throwing for only 220 yards and one interception.

"Right now (Travis is) our guy," coach Kyle Whittingham said Monday. "We are pleased with his initial performance. We don't want him playing on eggshells. There is a fine line -- we talk about being competitive and we need him to perform, but at the same time he has to know that we have confidence in him and what we saw in that game we have confidence in him that he will continue to perform."

The Utes have had trouble generating offense through the ground, ranking 116th in the nation with just 100 yards per game. The team hasn't done much better through the air, averaging 202 yards per game.

"I don't think we're running the ball enough," said Whittingham, whose team has the second fewest rushing scores in the Pac-12 with four. "That's something going forward that we need to make an effort to do."

According to ESPN.com: "Utah has won four of the last five in this series, but it lost 24-7 in its last game in Corvallis on Aug. 30, 2007."

Utah has lost three straight games and haven't won since Sept 15th against Brigham Young, who was ranked 25th in the nation at the time.

Oregon State has a tough schedule the rest of the season, including road games against Washington and Stanford. The team also is on track for a showdown of undefeated teams when the Beavers host Oregon on Nov. 24. That game could decide who will advance to the Pac-12 title game.
