The Seattle Seahawks may look at Evan Mathis and Samson Satele as free agent options for the offensive line and this comes as Kam Chancellor may continue his holdout into the season, while offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell expects Jimmy Graham to make a major impact for Russell Wilson on offense.
The Seahawks are coming back after a devastating loss in the Super Bowl and the team is primed again for another run. The team had to trade Max Unger to get Graham and that has weakened the offensive line a bit along with the loss of James Carpenter in free agency. According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Seahawks had Evan Mathis in for a visit and the guard could consider signing with the team. Mathis has had interest from other teams, including the Rams, Texans and Miami Dolphins this offseason.
Kam Chancellor has continued his holdout and Pro Football Talk reports that Chancellor could consider holding out into the season. The Seahawks are looking at Mathis and according to Adam Caplan at ESPN, the team also is visiting with center Samson Satele. The Seahawks have not decided yet on a starter to take over for Unger with Lemuel Jeanpierre and Drew Nowak starting in the preseason. Satele could be an option and he has a past relationship with line coach Tom Cable from his time with the Raiders. Satele started 16 games for the Dolphins last season.
The addition of Graham was a huge move for the Seahawks and according to the MMQB, Bevell said that the tight end should make an impact for Wilson this season, especially in the red zone. Bevell said to Peter King in an interview that Graham has "added a new dimension" to the offense and that he can be a good help on third downs as well. Graham comes in after having a down season by his standards, but compared to the Seattle TE situation, 85 catches for 889 yards and 10 TDs would be very welcome.
The Seahawks are also expected to have back Tarvaris Jackson for the first game of the season after dealing with an injury. According to Pro Football Talk, Jackson is dealing with an ankle injury suffered against the Denver Broncos and he is expected to be back for Week 1 of the season. Head coach Pete Carroll said that Jackson is "making progress" and that the plan is for him to see who he feels into next week before deciding on when he plays again. The team added Jake Waters to the roster for depth after the injury.
The Seahawks have been extremely confident in the durability and consistency in Russell since he took over, as the team had just two QBs on the roster last season. Wilson has not yet missed a game in his three seasons in the NFL and he has been remarkably consistent with his accuracy, going for 64.1 percent and 63.1 percent (2013 and 2014) in his years in the league. Wilson had just seven interceptions last season and he threw for a career best 3475 yards and rushed for a high of 849 yards.
