MLB Trade Rumors:Chris Young, Heath Bell and Pennington Exchanged By Athletics, Marlins, and Diamondbacks

Oct 20, 2012 04:53 PM EDT

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and MLB.com tweeted from their respective accounts that the Oakland Athletics acquired Chris Young and the Arizona Diamondbacks received Cliff Pennington and Heath Bell via trade.

The Diamondbacks sent their outfielder, Young, to the A's for Cliff Pennington in return. The Miami Marlins jumped in and sent their former closer Bell while getting third base prospect Yorby Cabrera from the Athletics.

What exactly are these teams getting?

Well, it is interesting to see what the A's will do with Coco Crisp who is under contract through 2014 and is currently their centerfielder. Young is also a centerfielder.

In 101 games played in 2012, Young hit .231 with 14 home runs 41 RBI. He is a seven-year veteran and a former 2010 All-Star.

The Diamondbacks get a second baseman with a strong arm in Pennington. He formed a big part in the Athletics' run at the end of the season to win the A.L. West. He only hit .215 with six homers and 28 RBI in the regular season, but Pennington's defense is very vaulable. He only made two errors at second base and he can also play shortstop. He played 93 games at short, committing only nine errors and he had two in 26 games played at second.

The D'Backs also get Bell who had some issues in 2012. After saving 43 games for the San Diego Padres in 2011, he only saved 19 games and did it with a 5.09 ERA. While with the Padres, he saved no less than 40 games a year and his highest ERA was 2.71. The D'Backs will pay $13 million of the $21 million owed to Bell.

The Marlins' prospect, Cabrera, can play second and third base. He is 22-years-old and played his first season Phoenix Desert Dogs.
