NY Jets Rumors: Robert Griffin III Trade Option if Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick Struggle? Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker Defend QB Over Washington Redskins Deal

Robert Griffin III's future has never felt guaranteed considering his injury history. The Washington Redskins picked up his fifth-year option, but even then many doubted his future with the franchise. Now with concussion issues keeping him out of a Week 1 start, Griffin's future once again comes into question as reports say the Redskins have receiver trade calls for the quarterback.

According to ESPN's Dianna Russini and Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Redskins have had trade conversations regarding Griffin. The front office wants to move on from the quarterback while the coaching staff is meeting them with resistance. According to the ESPN report, a handful of NFL teams have been called about a potential deal for the quarterback, but it is unclear what the interest level is considering his injury history and poor production on the field.

Could the New York Jets be a team that grows interested in Griffin? According to the New York Post, Geno Smith's future is not guaranteed by any means following two disappointing years with the team. Head coach Todd Bowles would not guarantee that Smith returns as the starter for the team should Ryan Fitzpatrick begin to excel for the team. If Smith and Fitzpatrick both fail to get wins this season, Griffin could become a part of the talks sooner rather than later.

Fitzpatrick is trying to hold down the team while Smith is out with a broken jaw. So far he has been very quiet on the field. The offense has stressed their confidence in the veteran. If he can win, he will stay under center regardless of Smith's health. With both Smith and Fitzpatrick not guaranteed to be the long-term option for the Jets and Bryce Petty looking like a project quarterback, a deal for Griffin might be an option.

The Jets did everything they could to surround the quarterbacks with offensive talent. Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker headline the attack, but outside of the two receivers there are a lot of question marks. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, DeVier Posey was released which might guarantee the future of Jeremy Kerley as his role shrinks on offense. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell are working in tandem for the rushing attack while Jace Amaro's injury brings the tight end position into question for 2015.
