The Buffalo Bills have made a shocking move in releasing team captain Fred Jackson. Jackson is 34 and currently the NFL's oldest running back.

Jackson came to the Bills in 2006 only to become a staple of their franchise becoming the third leading rusher in bills history. Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley made a statement regarding Jackson. Whaley stated,

"Today, we had to make the difficult decision to release Fred Jackson. He had an incredible career for this organization for the past 10 years. We thank Fred for his hard work, dedication and leadership during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills. Fred has inspired the city of Buffalo in a number of ways. Fred and his family have been dedicated to this community, and we can't thank them enough for their contributions through his career."

The Bills will end up saving $2.5 million dollars in cap space, giving them a little more room to sign some players in positions of need. LeSean McCoy is currently the lead back in the Bills offense however he has been hobbled by a hamstring injury in recent weeks.

Backup running backs Bryce brown and Boobie Dixon did not play in this weekend's preseason game due to some prior injuries. The Bills will need everyone healthy week one when the Indianapolis Colts come to town.
