The Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are playing live on the NCAA college football schedule on Saturday and the game is on NBC and streaming live on the NBC Sports Live Extra website from Notre Dame Stadium. The game starts at 7:30 pm ET and has the number 11 ranked Irish looking to start the season strong against Tyrone Swoopes with Malik Zaire taking over for Brian Kelly.
Notre Dame opens the season with Texas and after that the team plays against Virginia and then Georgia Tech in a matchup of teams currently ranked. The team also has Clemson, USC down the line as well as Pitt, Wake Forest and BC before ending the season with Stanford. Texas is opening the season with Notre Dame and they will next play against Rice, California, Oklahoma State, TCU, Oklahoma and Kansas State.
Texas is still trying to find their footing with Charlie Strong at head coach, while Notre Dame thinks it has the talent to win this season. The team has Everett Golson at Florida State now, but the team is confident in Zaire and he could be a breakout player this season. The Irish have a strong offensive line and Ronnie Stanley is expected to be very good again, while Tarean Folston could step up after rushing for nearly 900 yards last season.
Notre Dame is coming off of a disappointing 8-5 season and they could end up being more of a rushing team this year with the new players stepping up. A few years ago Notre Dame was more of a rushing team and now they have the chance to do that again. Texas comes in with a young team and Swoopes is the starter as a junior and there is a chance that Jerrod Heard also could play this season.
The Texas schedule has Iowa State, Kansas, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Baylor at the end and that could be a big game for the Bears. The college football season started off on Thursday and there are some big games through the weekend, including Alabama playing Wisconsin. The Ohio State Buckeyes will start off their season with Virginia Tech and they were the overall number one team in the nation in the poll coming in. Ohio State is considered one of the favorites for the national title.
