The NY Giants are getting Jason Pierre-Paul back on Monday, as the defensive end will take a physical and that could bring an end to the JPP injury saga following his finger amputation. The Giants have checked in on a Kam Chancellor trade and this comes as Eli Manning, Odell Beckham, Shane Vereen and Victor Cruz are the best fantasy picks for New York.
Jason Pierre-Paul has been away from the team all summer and it came after the team used the franchise tag on him in the offseason. According to NFL.com, Pierre-Paul is coming in to take a physical and that could dictate what happens with the one-year franchise tender. Once the Giants know if Pierre-Paul can come back soon, the sides can work out when JPP can get onto the field for the team.
Pierre-Paul has a guaranteed $14.8 million on his franchise tender, but depending on the physical, the Giants can push JPP to the non-football injury list and keep some of the money. Either way, this is progress for the Giants, as JPP has been away from the team for all of the offseason. If JPP ends up on the NFL list, that means he could iss six games of the season. Pierre-Paul comes in after putting up 12.5 sacks last season and that was the most he has had since 2012.
JPP had two down seasons between those years while dealing with inconsistency and injuries and now his future in New York past this season is uncertain. JPP had to have a finger amputated and also had to deal with a thumb fracture. The Giants are hoping that he can return soon and despite the missing part of the finger that he can be an effective pass rusher. The defense needs that this season and they will be much better off with Pierre-Paul than without him.
The Giants have reportedly called the Seahawks about Kam Chancellor, as the team has a major void at safety after dealing with injuries this summer. According to NFL.com, the Giants have shown interest in a trade, but Ian Rapoport reports that it has been nothing more than just talks and that the Seahawks are not "willing to entertain trade talks." The Seahawks added Kelcie McCray in a trade with the Chiefs and that could be some insurance in case Chancellor holds out into the season.
Victor Cruz is likely going to be out for Week 1 while dealing with a calf injury and that could keep him sidelined for the first part of the season. According to NFL.com, Cruz has recovered well from his knee surgery and now he could be out for a couple weeks. Odell Beckham is ready to go after dealing with a hamstring and he is a top 10 fantasy player this season. Shane Vereen is a great PPR option and he could put up great numbers for Eli Manning.
