NY Mets Rumors and News: Matt Harvey Will Pitch In Playoffs After Scott Boras, Sandy Alderson Drama Over Innings Limit

Sep 07, 2015 12:50 PM EDT

The NY Mets and Matt Harvey have appeared to settle any issues regarding an innings limit for the pitcher this season, as Harvey announced that he will pitch in the playoffs if the Mets make it in. The announcement came after some back and forth with Scott Boras and Sandy Alderson and now Harvey will prepare to finish out the season and get into the playoffs.

After a couple days of back and forth between the Mets, Sandy Alderson and Scott Boras, it looks like the drama is over regarding Harvey's limits. While Harvey admitted that 180 innings was where he thought he would finish out the season, the pitcher wrote on the Players Tribune that he will pitch this postseason. According to the article, Harvey wrote that he "will pitch in the playoffs" and that now "his doctors, Sandy Alderson and the Mets organization are all on the same page" regarding the rest of the season.

Harvey is coming back from Tommy John surgery and that is one of the main reasons why this has been a major issue. The Mets are looking like a playoff team for the first time in years and Harvey expressed his desire to pitch in the playoffs if the team makes it. Harvey comes in after starting 25 games already this season and he is 12-7 with a 2.60 ERA. Harvey has pitched 166 innings this season.

MLB.com reports that he will start against the Nationals this week and then will be slotted in for another start in the final series of the season. Things could change if the Mets clinch a playoff spot by then, but for now that is the plan. Harvey could see some shortened starts or a skipped start to help out down the stretch.

From the Tribune: "You've heard about the 180-185 innings cap. That seems to be the number that will allow me to pitch into the postseason. Regardless of those numbers, I hope everyone knows: I have always wanted to play. I have always wanted to pitch every single chance I get. Especially in the playoffs."
