The Tennessee Titans are trying to become a team on the map now that they have Marcus Mariota under center. The quarterback looked every bit the part of a franchise quarterback during the preseason and the Titans have the offensive playmakers to make him a success. Several players are hoping Mariota makes them into a star as Kendall Wright is slowly becoming a go-to guy for the quarterback.
Wright has been underwhelming since arriving in Tennessee which some might sum up to quarterback problems. Getting consistency with Mariota under center has helped the wide receiver thrive this season with the team as big numbers are expected. According to Wright, having experience in a spread offense has helped his chemistry with Mariota.
"I think it helps a lot. I've been in the same type of offense that he's been in, and in certain ways I feel like it's kind of a feel thing." Wright said, via the Tennessean. "Him and RG3 were just alike coming out of college. They both won the Heisman and were the second overall pick. And fortunately, I got to play with both of them. I think it helps a lot. And I think him having somebody who's been in an offense like he has helps him to feel more comfortable."
The wide receiver rotation is one to watch for the Titans. According to head coach Ken Whisenhut, rookie Dorial Green-Beckham will see a lot of playing time as he has impressed during the preseason. After releasing Hakeem Nicks, the Titans needed Green-Beckham to step up quickly as the receiving rotation is down to just four players as Justin Hunter and Harry Douglas round out the group. The pressure is on the group to step up quickly.
"After all the cuts were done, that's when we realized there's only four of us left competing,'' Green-Beckham said, via the team website. "It was a crowded room before, and now it's empty. It's a little weird, but us four, we can get the job done. We have to help each other out and hold each other accountable."
There is expected to be some battling at the running back position as Terrance West was acquired in a trade. There is a lot of confidence in Bishop Sankey and with David Cobb sitting on injured resever, West was needed. However, Dexter McCluster is looking to play a bigger role with the team this season and the additional running back hurts that chance.
"I've always been that jitterbug type of guy,'' McCluster said, via the team website. "I see the hole, and I hit it as fast as possible. I pride myself in being a spark. I want to be the guy to make that spark to ignite the offense and get that scoring drive."
