New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler has been listed as day-to-day after an MRI revealed that his knee injury was nothing more a bruised bone.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year went down in the early minutes of Wednesday's preseason game with the Brooklyn Nets after a collision with Nets forward Gerald Wallace while setting a screen, in which he appeared to be in significant pain.
Chandler remained clutching his knee on the court for several minutes before he hobbled his way over to the Knicks bench.
Chandler left the Nassau Coliseum on crutches, but he said he was optimistic that he'll be ready for the season opener on Nov. 1 against the Nets at the brand new Barclays Center.
"I just feel like I have a sprain or something like that," Chandler said. "I'm sure I'll stay off it the next couple of days and then pick up work with my teammates leading into the first game of the season."
Chandler's injury is the latest in a long line for the Knicks this preseason.
The Knicks have their season opener a week from Thursday in Brooklyn. With the long list of injuries they already have to deal with, the Knicks can't afford to have Chandler sit for a lengthy number of days.
While power forward Amar'e Stoudemire has already been ruled out for two to three weeks, the Knicks will need last year's Defensive Player of the Year to anchor the Knicks in the paint.
