MLB Playoffs Standings and Wild Card: Blue Jays Lead Yankees, Texas Rangers Overtake Astros In Division Races, Mets, Dodgers, Cardinals Leading

Sep 16, 2015 10:47 AM EDT

The MLB playoffs standings are starting to take shape heading into the middle of September and teams like the Toronto Blue Jays, NY Yankees, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates are battling for division crowns. The Mets, Dodgers and Royals are leading by wide margins and should get in as division winners.

The American League East is still firmly up for grabs, as the Yankees and the Blue Jays have more head to head games against each other this season. The Blue Jays are up by a few games and the Yankees are nipping behind them after a couple nice wins against Tampa. Both teams are in contention for the division title and the loser of the division likely will make it in as the American League wild card.

The Royals have the AL Central all but wrapped up with a big lead on the Twins, but the AL West remains in reach for the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. The two teams have more head to head games this season and the Astros have been leading the division for most of the season. The Rangers are in contention and the loser of this race is trying to hold off the Twins in the wild card.

The Mets beat up on the Washington Nationals last week and barring a collapse, the team has the NL East division crown waiting for them at the end of September. The Cardinals have the best record in the NL and the team is leading the central division over the Pirates. The Pirates and the Cubs are in wild card contention and as things stand now, those three teams will likely make the playoffs.

The Cubs likely will not be able to catch either team for the division title, but they are in position to get a wild card spot. The LA Dodgers are leading the NL West division over the Giants and San Francisco will have to play some strong baseball at the end to get into playoff position.

The AL Wild card has the Yankees in the top spot over the Rangers, while the Twins and Angels remain in contention. The NL has the Pirates and the Cubs leading and barring a collapse there, those teams will make the playoffs, as they have big leads over the Nationals and Giants.
