The NY Yankees and the New York Mets have split the first two games of the Subway Series and Sunday night baseball will be the deciding game of the three-game set. The Yankees are battling to stay in playoff position, while the Mets basically have the NL East locked up and are looking for home field for their postseason series.
The Yankees shut out the Mets on Saturday 5-0 in a big game for the team, which came after the Mets won 5-1 on Friday night to start the series off. The final game starts up past 8 pm ET and will be on ESPN from Citi Field in Queens. The Yankees are still looking to catch the Blue Jays in the division and they need to play some solid baseball over the next week and a half to catch them.
The Yankees made a lot of moves in the game on Saturday and the team used seven different pitchers to get the shutout. The Yankees play the Blue Jays starting on Monday and getting a win here would be huge. Carlos Beltran started things off with a home run in the first inning to put the Yankees up 3-0 and that came off starter Noah Syndergaard. Brian McCann later added a two run homer.
Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he lasted into the sixth inning and the team was able to keep the Mets from scoring. Yoenis Cespedes went 0-4 in the game and he now has not had a hit over his last couple games. The pitching matchup for Sunday night has CC Sabathia taking on Matt Harvey and both teams would like to finish this series up 2-1.
