The Green Bay Packers saw Eddie Lacy and Davante Adams injured on Sunday night, but both players could start in Week 3 for Aaron Rodgers. James Jones remains a top fantasy sleeper option with how he has played, while Randall Cobb still is the best starter of the group.
The Packers have opened the season 2-0 with wins against the Seahawks and the Bears and now they will face off against the Chiefs on Monday night football. The extra day of rest should help with both Lacy and Adams, who was able to return to the game after his injury, while Lacy did not. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Lacy is dealing with an ankle sprain and it is considered to be a "minor injury" heading into the middle of the week.
Rapoport reported after the game on Sunday that the x-rays on Lacy's ankle came back negative and that makes it likely that he will play on Monday. James Starks came in and was very solid in place of Lacy and if Lacy has a setback and can't play, Starks likely will get the start for Green Bay. Starks had 95 yards on 20 carries after Lacy left in the first half and that was promising for the Packers, as they were able to come back against the Seahawks without one of their best players on the field.
According to ESPN.com, Adam Schefter reports that Lacy is "hoping" to be active against the Chiefs in Week 3. Lacy could be questionable for the game and the Monday start gives him a chance to have another day to recover from the ankle issue. Starks is a strong backup and fantasy owners should grab him in case Lacy can't go on Monday night. Lacy has 94 yards rushing this season and one touchdown in two games.
Adams suffered an ankle injury against the Seahawks, but it was not serious enough to keep him out of the game and he was able to return after leaving. Adams finished with five catches for 33 yards in the game and this season he has been a solid option for Aaron Rodgers. Jordy Nelson is out for the season and that gives players like Jones and Adams the chance to step up. Adams had 38 catches as a rookie last season and he has nine catches for 92 yards this year.
If Adams is limited for Monday night football, it will benefit both James Jones and Randall Cobb and those players could put up some numbers. Jones has been a solid fantasy sleeper for the past two weeks, as he already has three touchdowns this season. Jones and Rodgers have good chemistry from their time as teammates and he has a knack for finding the endzone. That is one reason why Jones is a strong fantasy option even with just five catches this season, as three of those have been for TDs already. Rodgers is one of the best fantasy options each week and he comes in with 5 TDs and zero picks in two games this season.
