The Heisman Trophy race is already starting to take shape in college football for 2015 and players like Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, Trevone Boykin, Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott, Baker Mayfield and Chad Kelly are all in the mix heading into Week 4.
Fournette had a big game last week and that has put him in the conversation for the Heisman out of LSU, who put the hurt on Auburn over the weekend. Fournette had 228 yards rushing in the game with three touchdowns and he had two scores of over 25-yards. Fournette already has nearly 400 yards rushing and he has put in six touchdowns while averaging 8.2 yards per carry. If LSU stays in the playoff mix, Fournette will be one of the top candidates for the award.
Nick Chubb is also in the mix in the SEC out of Georgia and he has put up some impressive numbers to start the season. Chubb had 159 yards and two touchdowns this week and he has already rushed for 468 yards this season for the Bulldogs. Boykin has an edge over some of the running backs for the award because he can put up bigger numbers as a QB and this week he sure did with over 500 total yards. Boykin had six total touchdowns and passed for 454 yards against SMU.
Ohio State is going to be in the mix all season and that helps Elliott if he continues to perform well for the Buckeyes. Elliott had 108 yards against Northern Illinois and this season he has put up 331 rushing yards and four touchdowns while averaging over five yards per carry. Baker Mayfield could be in the mix if Oklahoma stays undefeated through the Big 12, as he put up 487 yards and four touchdowns in the air last week and added two more touchdowns on the ground.
Mayfield has 14 total touchdowns this season with 1062 passing yards and he could have the stats to be a real contender. Ole Miss has started off big and with the team beating Alabama, Chad Kelly could be in the mix, as he has 898 yards passing and nine touchdowns with just one interception this season.
