NFL Recap: Ben Roethlisberger Injured In Week 3 Win For Mike Tomlin, After Hit From Mark Barron of St. Louis Rams

Sep 28, 2015 11:50 AM EDT

Pittsburgh Steelers franchise quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger was sidelined with a left knee injury in Sunday's game. Big Ben got hit square in the side of his knee by strong safety Mark Barron in the middle of the third quarter.

The hit did not look good as Roethlisberger crumpled to the ground holding his knee, grimacing in pain. Roethlisberger did not return and was seen on crutches as the game came to a close. Michael Vick came in to replace the injured Ben Roethlisberger and went 5 of 6 from the field for 38 yards.

The Steelers were ahead when Vick came in so the only goal was to kill the clock and hold on to the lead. With Roethlisberger clearly out for the next few games the offense will need to be tailored to Michael Vick's strengths.

The initial prognosis is that Ben Roethlisberger will only miss 4 to 6 games with a bone bruise however Monday should bring more clarity about the situation. The Steelers will face the Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Oakland Raiders in the time Roethlisberger should be out of action so the potential NFL impact of this injury could be massive. Roethlisberger is just the next victim of a major injury bug that has hit the NFL in the first three weeks.
