The Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks in their season opener at the Staples Center starting at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The Mavericks will be without their leader and franchise player Dirk Nowitzki as he will be out for the first six weeks of the season with a knee injury.
They have made acquisitions this past offseason after losing their big time bench player Jason Terry.
They signed O.J. Mayo and Chris Kaman.
However, no other team in the NBA made a bigger splash than the Lakers' acquisitions of the offseason.
They first got Steve Nash in the purple and gold.
Then after months of anticipation, Dwight Howard finally decided to leave Orlando as the Lakers, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets found a way to make a deal.
The Lakers made space for Howard and shipped out their two-time NBA champion Andrew Bynum to the Sixers.
However, the Lakers will look to Howard now as they find themselves looking for players who will be in L.A. post-Kobe era.
Speaking of Kobe, the five-time NBA Championship winner said he will lace up tonight and play in the season opener after doubts of his health.
The Lakers will begin a season full of expectations as they are the favorite to exit the Western Conference and challenge the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.
