Three days after the controversial English Premier League game, Chelsea and Manchester United will step out onto the same Stamford Bridge pitch, with the home side desperate to banish the demons of Horror Sunday.
Admittedly there will not be as much at stake for either team, with both sides expected to name a much-changed starting lineup from the Premier League game. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, however, will be determined to make a statement of sorts, after the Blues were unlucky to not come away with a single point in a 3-2 loss.
The Italian is expected to rest the likes of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard, with Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic suspended after picking up red cards in the now infamous game.
Where Di Matteo will have his task cut out, however, will be to get his players to focus on the 90 minutes on the pitch, and not be bothered by the off-field issues with Sunday's referee Mark Clattenburg accused by the Blues of using inappropriate language towards Mata and John Obi Mikel.
Lee Mason will be given the unenviable task of maintain control of the game on Wednesday.
Both Mikel and Mata are not expected to be involved right from the start, although they might be given a place on the bench due to Chelsea's suspension and injury crisis. Along with Ivanovic and Torres, John Terry is also suspended, with Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole ruled out due to injury. Cole has an ankle problem from the United game, and as a result will sit out the League Cup clash.
"It is certainly a tricky situation, because we have Branislav Ivanovic, Fernando Torres and John Terry suspended, and Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole out injured," Di Matteo said. "Ashley's ankle is sore and swollen and he won't recover in time for tomorrow.
"So it reduces the squad but everybody else is okay. It is also our fourth game in 10 days and they have all been big games so we are looking to freshen the team up a little bit for sure, and also put a couple of youngsters in.
"We always talk about developing and giving youngsters a chance so this type of game is a good opportunity for some of them."
The Blues will also have an emphasis on youth with Victor Moses, Lucaz Piazon, Ryan Bertrand and Marko Marin all expected to start the game.
Sir Alex Ferguson, buoyed by the dramatic win over Chelsea, will look to drive his players to another match-winning performance, with the Scot also expected to rest some of his key players.
The likes of Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick are not expected to play, giving the opportunity to the likes of Scott Wooton, Alexander Buttner, Michael Keane and Nick Powell a chance to strut their stuff.
"Obviously we will make changes for the Wednesday game," Ferguson told the club's official website. "The squad that played against Newcastle will be in place again.
"You don't want to lose down there and we want to continue in the cup."
The game will be one of two things - another end-to-end entertaining and fiery encounter or a bit of an anti-climatic 0-0 draw - the neutrals will certainly be hoping for the former.
