The Green Bay Packers may be without Davante Adams for a stretch with an injury and that makes James Jones and Ty Montgomery fantasy sleeper options for owners heading into Week 4. The Packers have Andrew Quarless heading to the IR and that could put Richard Rodgers into the starting lineup with Eddie Lacy and Randall Cobb for Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers have been dealing with injuries at the WR position this season with Jordy Nelson already done for the year and now Adams is also dealing with an injury. Adams injured his ankle earlier in the season and he re-injured that ankle on Monday night football against the Chiefs last week. Adams did not practice on Wednesday and according to ESPN.com, Adams has a boot on his left ankle to help with his injury.
ESPN reports that Adams does not have a high ankle sprain despite the boot and that the team likely I being cautious with the receiver heading into Week 4. Adams likely will not play in that game against the 49ers and that could put Ty Montgomery into a bigger role on offense. Fantasy owners should look at Montgomery and James Jones as the main options to step in with Randall Cobb if Adams can't go on Sunday.
Adams has been slow to start the season while dealing with the ankle injury and fantasy football owners should keep an eye on his progress past this week. Jones is the best option past Cobb, as he has shown some great chemistry with Aaron Rodgers again and has been finding his way into the endzone. Jones has been making the most of his chance with the team, making 12 catches in three games and scoring four touchdowns.
Montgomery is a sleeper option going forward with Adams injured, as the Packers will continue throwing the ball and if defenses lock in on Cobb, Montgomery could be productive. Montgomery has just six catches in three games, but he also adds some value as a special teams returner. Montgomery likely will see more time in three three receiver sets and the Packers could try and use him out of the slot to open things up. Jeff Janis is not worth a fantasy look and for owners of Adams, Jones and Montgomery are the best options. Eddie Lacy was able to play on Monday night and he looks like a full go next week after dealing with an ankle injury.
The Packers are also dealing with an injury at the tight end position, as Andrew Quarless was placed on injured reserve with designation to return. According to Pro Football Talk, Quarless suffered an MCL sprain in the game on Monday night and now he will be out for at least eight weeks for the Packers. Quarless has not done much with just two catches, but the team clearly thinks he is worth keeping around to return and that his injury is not serious enough to keep him out all season. Richard Rodgers likely will take over as the starter and he is a solid option in deeper fantasy leagues for owners.
