The New Orleans Hornets and the San Antonio Spurs are both ready to embark on the 2012-13 NBA season as they'll meet Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET in New Orleans for a Western Conference matchup.
The game will highlight the highly anticipated debut of No. 1 draft pick power forward Anthony Davis of the Hornets.
Davis averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and a whopping 4.7 blocks per game for Kentucky last season. He'll immediately be one of the league's best shot-blockers, perhaps even challenging Serge Ibaka for top-block honors as early as this season.
During the preseason Davis averaged 14.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
Davis undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him in the league, and Spurs head coach Greg Popovich believe he's lucky to have landed in New Orleans.
Popovich said, Davis has been paired with a coach who will not allow him to coast on his prodigious talent.
"Monty is going to make him play the right way," Popovich said. "He's not going to skip any steps. He's going to make sure he's sound fundamentally and take advantage of all the basics of basketball that will make him a great player."
