Royals Trade Rumors: KC Acquires Ervin Santana from the Los Angeles Angels

Oct 31, 2012 05:37 PM EDT

The Kansas City Royals acquired Ervin Santana from the Los Angeles Angels for AAA pitcher Brandon Sisk on Wednesday as they set off on the offseason trading moves.

Santana, a one-time All-Star in 2008, went 9-13 in 2012 with a 5.16 ERA. It was definitely not his best season as he gave up 39 home runs.

Santana was an Angel rumored to be traded during the July deadline, but it never occurred. Now he will leave the team that got him back in 2000 as a free agent.

The trade was reported by Ken Rosenthal, reporter of FOX Sports. He said via Twitter that the Angels will get a left hander in Sisk. The 27-year-old posted a 1.35 WHIP.

The Angels look like they are trimming down their pitching staff who they owe a lot of money in 2013.

The Angels had a $13 million option for Santana, but now they obviously will not have to pay all of it off as they sent money over with the right hander to Kansas City. They still have to decide whether they will pick up a $15.5 million option in Dan Haren's contract.

For fans concerned about the Angels' pitching staff, do no forget, Jered Weaver and Zack Greinke are still the headers of that rotation. That is not a bad 1-2 combo.
