The 2012-13 regular season for the Houston Rockets kickoff as they travel to face the Detroit Pistons in a NBA showdown at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Houston enters the game with some new faces in hopes that they'll help the team improve off of last season's record.
Jeremy Lin makes his Rockets debut after they acquired him over the summer by outmaneuvering the Knicks in free agency, signing the point guard to a three-year, $25 million deal.
Lin, who went undrafted out of Harvard, became a sensation with a remarkable stretch in February, scoring at least 20 points in nine of 10 games. A career high point game came Feb. 10, when he scored 38 points and had seven assists in a 92-85 win over the Lakers.
Former Oklahoma City Thunder sixth man James Harden will be making his Rockets debut as well after signing him to a 5-year, $80-million deal, after a trade with the Thunder. Harden averaged 16.8 points per game last season but was unable to work out a contract extension with the Thunder.
In exchange, Houston gave up two of their own guards: Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb. Martin started 40 games for the Rockets last season and averaged 17.1 points per contest. But he missed the end of the season with a shoulder injury and also reportedly clashed with Houston coach Kevin McHale.
Lamb, meanwhile, was the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He averaged 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season with the University of Connecticut Huskies.
The Rockets also dealt two first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Thunder in the trade.
