NBA Results: 76ers Defeat Nuggets 84-75 in Opener

Oct 31, 2012 09:47 PM EDT

The Philadelphia 76ers look like they are in no need of Andre Iguodala after defeating the Denver Nuggets in their season opener 85-74.

They did it as a team as the Sixers had five guys in double digits. Their leading scorer, Spencer Hawes, who had 16 points with 12 rebounds.

Other key guys, Dorrel Wright and Jrue Holiday had 14 points each, Thaddeus Young had 13 points, five rebounds and two steals and new addition Jason Richardson had 10 points.

Holiday played the role of the table setter with 11 assists on the night.

They struggled overall from the floor shooting 35 percent and only 28 percent from beyond the arc, but they forced 22 turnovers and made their free throws (17-21, 81%).

In his first game in a Nuggets' jersey, Iguodala finished with 11 points after going 5-13 from the floor and 0-4 from three-point land.

The 76ers took an eight-point lead to the half and pinned the Nuggets down heading into the fourth with a 13-point lead.

The only quarter the Nuggets won, scoring wise was the fourth, but by then it was too late.

Overall, despite the poor shooting performance from the floor, this is a great sign for the 76ers.

They do not have Andrew Bynum on the floor yet and he is only going to make them better, especially in the paint and grabbing boards.

The 76ers will play their Atlantic rival New York Knicks on Sunday, meanwhile the Nuggets will travel south where they will face the Orlando Magic on Friday.
