The Dallas Cowboys season is going from bad to worse as the injuries continue to pile up. The team is fresh off a disappointing loss to the New Orleans Saints in overtime, but that is not even the worst of it. After already losing Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, the Cowboys were short on playmakers. Now they are even shorter as Lance Dunbar could be done for the season.
The news surrounding Dunbar at the moment is not good. The running back was injured on the opening kickoff in the second half against the Saints. His left leg buckled underneath him and he was unable to put any weight on it as he was helped off the field. According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, sources fear Dunbar is done for the season after tearing his ACL and MCL in his left knee. The running back is set to undergo an MRI on Monday, but the outlook is not good.
"I don't like it. It doesn't sound good," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. "They'll go back and do more technical evaluation of it, but I don't like the way it sounds."
Losing Dunbar would be a huge loss for the Cowboys. The running back was leading the team in receiving yards heading into Sunday's game. He had 10 catches for 100 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 and had turned into the team's biggest offensive producer with Bryant out with injury. Prior to getting hurt against the Saints, Dunbar had three carries for 54 yards rushing to lead the team.
With Dunbar out, pressure rises on Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden. While both running backs have had their moments this season, neither have been able to put together a consistent streak. The Cowboys do get Christine Michael back in the mix. The running back who came via a trade with the Seattle Seahawks had been sitting out with injury. He had just one carry against the Saints that went for a one-yard loss, but there is hope that he could emerge as the real star in Dallas. The Cowboys must hope so.
With the run game struggling, Brandon Weeden is not doing much to take the football to the air. The backup quarterback was able to put together a game-tying touchdown drive that ended with Terrance Williams getting a touchdown. The Cowboys continued to limit the number of throws Weeden was putting together. He ended the night going 16-of-26 for 246 yards while getting sacked three times. If the Cowboys are going to get some wins while they wait for Romo, they need more from the quarterback
