Detroit Lions Rumors: Ameer Abdullah Fantasy Starter Over Joique Bell, Theo Riddick, Eric Ebron Out For Matthew Stafford Week 5 With Injury?

Oct 06, 2015 03:09 PM EDT

The Detroit Lions are 0-4 this season and moving forward Ameer Abdullah is the best fantasy football option for the team at running back over Joique Bell and Theo Riddick with the way things have played out. The Lions lost in Week 4 on Monday night and tight end Eric Ebron had to leave the game with an injury and his status could be in question for Week 5.

The Lions nearly won the game against the Seattle Seahawks, but Calvin Johnson was not able to score late in the fourth quarter, fumbling into the endzone on what ended up being a controversial play. The Seahawks jarred the ball loose and the defense knocked the fumbling ball out of the back of the endzone, which Pro Football Talk reports should have resulted in a penalty. Either way, the Seahawks won and now the Lions are 0-4 and the season appears to be slipping away.

Eric Ebron was forced to leave the game against the Seahawks after suffering a knee injury and he did not return to the contest. According to ESPN.com, Adam Caplan reports that Ebron underwent an MRI and the test showed "no structural damage" to the knee. Ebron could be available for Week 5, but right now that is uncertain. The Lions were already playing without Brandon Pettigrew and the team also has Tim Wright on the roster. Wright likely would start if Ebron can't go next week. Pettigrew has missed three straight games for the Lions.

The Lions running back situation is starting to shuffle into place and with the way the season has started, Ameer Abdullah is the de facto starter at the position. Joique Bell was out with an injury in Week 4, but even before that Abdullah was consistently out touching the running back and moving forward fantasy owners should look at Abdullah as the number one. Abdullah had 33 yards in the game against the Seahawks and this season he has more rush attempts and catches than Bell. Theo Riddick is also a fantasy option, but only in deeper leagues for owners.

The Lions are winless this season and after the game on Monday night they are down an important player with Tyrunn Walker getting injured. According to NFL.com, Ian Rapoport reports that Walker is out with a broken fibula and he will be placed on injured reserve. Walker will be out for the season after signing earlier in the offseason and he is expected to be recovered for next year, per Pro Football Talk. The Lions also saw Haloti Ngata injured, but his injury is not considered to be as serious. PFT reports that Ngata suffered a calf injury.
