The long awaited and highly anticipated debut of the Brooklyn Nets versus crosstown rival the New York Knicks has been postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and has been rescheduled to be held Nov. 26.
The league wanted to continue with the game, but New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg recommended it be postponed.
"Mayor Bloomberg informed us this afternoon that after further analysis of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy that he felt it was in the best interests of the city of New York, the teams and our fans that we postpone the Knicks-Nets game scheduled for Thursday night," NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement Wednesday. "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating storm."
The game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET and be televised nationally on TNT.
The Knicks, however, begin their season Friday against the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden. Though normally such a marquee event, the team is not sure what kind of crowd attendance to expect.
The Knicks know that with the difficulties fans are facing, it may not be the usual packed house that would be expected for a matchup against the team that knocked them out of last season's playoffs. But they're ready to play.
