Ryan Giggs admitted he felt as excited as a Manchester United supporter when news broke of Robin Van Persie's impending arrival to Old Trafford from Arsenal.
The prolific Dutchman has made a brilliant start to his United career, topping the team goalscoring charts with nine already to his name. Giggs, however, believes there is much more to Van Persie's game than just goals, with the Dutchman also garnering a considerable amount of assists, particularly with his pinpoint deliveries from setpieces.
Giggs said Van Persie's arrival had given a huge boost to the entire team. "When a ready-made, world-class player comes into the team it gives everybody a lift," Giggs told the club's official website.
"We're like the supporters -- we look forward to playing with and seeing quality players come into the team. Robin is certainly that -- he's proven that with his goals and all-round play since he's come to the club.
"Robin's setpiece delivery has been really important to us. It's a big plus this season that we're scoring from setpieces and corners.
"That's something we haven't done over the last few years as often as we'd have liked.
"So with Robin it's not just goals you get. He's helped add more goals to the scoresheet and helped a few different names get on there."
Van Persie will face his old club Arsenal Saturday in the English Premier League, after spending eight years with the North London club.
Arsenal will not have too many fond memories of their trip to Old Trafford last season, with the Gunners going down 8-2 in the corresponding fixture. Giggs, however, does not believe a repeat of that scoreline will be on the cards Saturday.
"I think that was one of those fluke performances," he said. "We always expect a tough performance against Arsenal, both home and away. It's no different this time.
"They got off to a really good start. They've stuttered a little in recent weeks but they have plenty of quality."
