Arsenal Transfer News: Olivier Giroud Wants to Take Confidence of Reading Victory to Old Trafford; Wenger Not Worried About Last Year's Result

Olivier Giroud, one of the standout players for Arsenal in the dream 7-5 win over Reading, was happy to come away with a victory but warned about making similar mistakes as the Gunners get ready to face Manchester United in a crunch clash this weekend.

Giroud started the goal glut in the second half for his side, heading in a Theo Walcott corner, right after coming on as a substitute, before playing a key role in helping the Gunners post a memorable victory after extra time.

While he admitted the win would help build confidence, Giroud was wary of the lack of concentration which led to Arsenal going down 4-0 after just 37 minutes.

"It was better for us to win the game (ahead of Saturday's match), it is good for confidence," the striker said.

"But we have to remember our problems and correct them because while we were able to come back in this game, we might not be able to do so next time.

"At 4-0 down it is difficult to come back, so we have to concentrate better from the start of each game."

The France international, particularly in the game against Reading, looked like he was finally finding his feet in England, and he insisted he has the confidence and ability to become a successful Arsenal player. "I try to go step by step, game by game," Giroud said. "I feel better and better and I trust in my quality and that I will be able to succeed with Arsenal.

"Although we have a difficult game (against United), I am confident in our quality."

The last time the Gunners visited Old Trafford, they suffered one of the biggest defeats under Arsene Wenger, but the Arsenal manager is not too concerned about the loss affecting his side come Saturday.

"I believe that of course there is an emotional aspect to a result like that," he said. "But on a footballing front I don't think you give too much importance to a result like that.

"It is down to a team being much better than another that the scores are high, or down to special circumstances. On the day I think the result was down to special circumstances.

"That's why the emotional meaning is big but the footballing meaning is not very big, and we have had that behind us for a long, long time now."

Arsenal have already played the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City away, and Wenger knows another good result at Old Trafford will put them in good stead for the rest of the season.

"It is a part of the season where we have played Liverpool away, Stoke away, City away, Manchester United now away," he added. "If we do well in this game we can come closer to Man United and we'll have played mainly all the big teams away from home.

"So for us it is a very important game."

Wenger, however, admitted to being concerned about Arsenal leaking in too many goals off late. "(It concerns me) a little bit -- when you are 4-0 down in 37 minutes you can't say all is well on that front," he said. "You have to give credit as well to the offensive quality in the Premier League, and to the offensive quality of Reading the other night.

"It is not always about your weaknesses, it is about strengths as well.

"Last night (Wednesday) the (Chelsea vs Manchester United) game finished 5-4, but it could have been seven as well. Both teams had chances. I believe the offensive quality has improved a lot.

"It is not only down to work, we worked last year as well. People forget that last year we were the team with the least shots against us in the league.

"We have always worked defensively. It is not just because you don't work that you concede goals."
