The Kansas City Chiefs may have lost Jamaal Charles for the season with an ACL injury in Week 5, as early reports have the running back tearing the ligament in his knee. Head coach Andy Reid said to the media that the team fears that Charles suffered a torn ACL and he will have an MRI to see the extent of the damage.
Charles was forced to leave the game against the Bears and did not return and his injury came on a non-contact play. Charles was making a cut back move when he went down on a 1st-and-goal attempt and he may have an ACL injury, which would have Charles out for the season, according to NFL.com. Charles is one of the top fantasy football players in the league and owners losing him for the season would be a tough pill to swallow.
Both Charcandrick West and Knile Davis have fantasy value moving forward and so far this season it has been West over Davis. If the Chiefs lose Charles for the year it will likely give Davis a chance to step up and the injury will put much more pressure on Alex Smith and Chiefs passing offense. Charles came into the game as one of the leading offensive players in the league in total yards, with 306 rushing yards and 151 receiving yards with five total touchdowns.
Charcandrick West and Knile Davis each are worth taking a look at for fantasy owners and the two could split carries moving forward for Kansas City. West rushed for 31 yards in the game against the Bears, while Knile Davis had two yards on two carries. Davis has 25 yards rushing this season and West had previously been getting some extra work behind Charles before the running back went down. The Chiefs may look at promoting someone or signing an RB this week, but for now West and Davis are the options.
Charles rushed for over 1000 yards last season and two years ago he put up over 1800 total yards and is one of the most important offensive players in the league. Charles being out for the season would be a major loss for the Chiefs.
