The NHL season is underway and teams like the Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets have been off to solid starts. In other league news, Connor McDavid scored his first career goal for the Oilers, while Los Angeles Kings forward Dwight King will be out for a couple months after having surgery.

McDavid, who was the number one pick in the draft this year, scored his first career goal for the Edmonton Oilers this week. McDavid scored against the Dallas Stars in a loss for the Oilers putting one past goalie Kari Lehtonen. McDavid had zero points on four shots in his first two career games before scoring the goal.

According to NHL.com, King will miss around two months after having foot surgery. King broke his foot after blocking a shot in the preseason and now he will be out for a long stretch for the Kings. Last season King had 13 goals and 26 points for Los Angeles and he has won two Stanley Cup titles with the team. The Dallas Stars have put Patrick Eaves on injured reserve, according to NHL.com and he is expected to miss "a couple weeks" for the Stars.

The Calgary Flames will be without Lance Bouma for a stretch, as the team announced that the center is out indefinitely. According to NHL.com, general manager Brad Treliving said that Bouma broke his fibula and that he will have surgery and could be out for a few months. Last season Bouma had 16 goals and 34 points, both career highs.
