NY Jets Rumors: Vernon Davis, 49ers Trade Option for Eric Decker, Brandon Marshall Help as Devin Smith, Jeremy Kerley Struggle? Ryan Fitzpatrick Favors Chris Ivory Offense

The New York Jets are living and breathing by the run game. Chris Ivory has been a star for the team this season and making Ryan Fitzpatrick's life a lot easier. While it is winning the team games, the receiving game is not what head coach Todd Bowles is looking for. As injuries have hit the group, could roster additions be coming as the Jets want other players to begin stepping up?

The New York Jets dominated the Washington Redskins thanks to 146 yards and touchdown from Chris Ivory along with a rushing touchdown from Fitzpatrick while Brandon Marshall anD Eric Decker each had a trip into the end zone. That is to be expected for the Jets. Marshall and Decker highlight the receiving game, but after them there is a big drop off. The Jets wanted Jeremy Kerley to be the next-best receiver or Devin Smith to begin developing as a threat, but neither have come true. Could a trade be an option?

ESPN New York's Rich Cimini examines the possibility of a trade for Vernon Davis. The San Francisco 49ers are walking the edge of having to make some tough decisions about certain players on the roster and Davis' expiring contract and value in the league make him a prime target. However, Cimini writes that because of his age and his $4.35 million salary, the chances the tight end heads to New York is slim to none. The Jets are not getting production out of their tight end right now. Both Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis have been almost non-existent in the offense. While the Jets want another reliable option in the receiving game, a trade for Davis might not be the smarter move. With the team needing to get younger, Davis is not the answer.

"Going forward, we're going to need a third and fourth option," Bowles said, via the New York Daily News. "And probably a fifth option, if we want to get to where we need to be."

Bowles wants more out of the passing game. He goes not want it to simply be the Decker and Marshall show all season long because that can get predictable for opposing defenses. However, that option will come from within this season and not by a trade. Now healthy, Smith has stated he wants more targets in the offense while Chris Owusu has been a good threat.

"I want it to happen just because I want to make a big play. That's what I came here for," Smith said, via the Daily News. "That's what I do. I'm just looking forward to us connecting and me helping the team in any way I can."
