It is no secret that Peyton Manning is not looking like his usual MVP self this season. The quarterback is being bailed out by the Denver Broncos defense as interceptions and incomplete passes suddenly become an issue for the team. Despite the inconsistencies in his performance so far this season, head coach Gary Kubiak denies the idea that Brock Osweiler will be getting time under center soon.
While the fans might not agree right now, the Broncos are better off with Manning than without considering no one else knows the offense as well as he does. With the run game struggling under CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman, Manning is the team's best chance at winning over Osweiler and Kubiak knows it.
"He's got some decisions I know he'd like to have back," Kubiak said, via 247Sports. "When you're the quarterback, you're the guy pulling the trigger all the time. So we know we have to improve in the turnover department, and as a coach, you always look at it, you say, 'OK, were we doing something on that route that maybe I shouldn't be asking him to do or those types [of things]. So that's how you look at things. But there's no skating around the fact that we're turning the ball over too much and he and I have got to get that improved and we will."
The biggest need for the Broncos is a run game. Anderson is quickly becoming the biggest fantasy football bust. Owners invested quickly in the running back who is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry with 180 yards on the ground through six games. The better option is appearing to be Ronnie Hillman who rushed for over 100 yards against the Cleveland Browns. He heads the list of waiver wire options this week. Kubiak continues to stress the need of having two co-starters in the run game, but committing to Hillman might be the best option.
The Broncos are hopeful that some rest can get everyone on the same page again. Emmanuel Sanders is dealing with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder and while the injury is not expected to linger, he would have been questionable if the Broncos were playing this week. Manning could also use a week of rest before getting into some critical division games. If the quarterback struggles once again in Week 8, anything is possible under center.
