The Kansas City Royals are looking to wrap up the American League Championship Series with one more win against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals have done everything possible to quiet one of the most effective offenses in the league as they have been the team to breakout offensively, most recently with 14 runs on Tuesday. One more performance like that will have the Royals heading back to the World Series for redemption after losing to San Francisco Giants.
Toronto's offense has been too inconsistent for the Blue Jays to get wins. Their bats were the reason they got to the playoffs in the first place and since then they have been outhomered 4-3 by the Royals. Kansas City has been batting .390 while the Blue Jays have not been able to match the production they have in the regular season. Players like Ben Zobrist and Alex Rios have been the batters making more noise than any of the players in Toronto. In their three losses, Toronto has mustered just five runs in total which has them on the brink of getting eliminated.
To try and lock in the win, the Royals will put Edinson Volquez on the mound. He is 1-1 with a 2.32 ERA in the postseason. However, he has lost his three previous starts with Kansas City, but did pitch a 5-0 win in his last time on the mound. Playing at Rogers Centre has not been kind for the Volquez who has lost both of his postseason starts on that field while Jose Bautista is 3 for 18 off him and Troy Tulowitzki is 3 for 17 off the pitcher.
The Blue Jays will put Marco Estrada on the mound to try and extend the series. The pitcher is 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA and will have an uphill climb to get another game for Toronto. The pitcher played well against the Texas Rangers giving up just one run in over six innings of play in the ALDS.He was not as effective in Game 1 of this series as he gave up three runs over five innings and has to put together his best performance if the Blue Jays are going to win.
