Join us as we will bring you state by state updates as we add up the electoral college votes which will decide who will be the next president of the United States.

The magic number, as we find them in sports as well as elections, is 270. Each state depending on its population  gets a minimum of three electoral votes and there are 538 votes up for grab.

In 2008, Barack Obama defeated John McCain 365 to 168, a difference of over 9.7 million votes.

California has 55, New York and Florida have 29 electoral votes, meanwhile, states such as North Dakota, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming and Delaware have just three electoral votes.

There are a couple of states in the balance, which are vital to candidates attempting to win the presidential elections.

Years ago we witnessed how important the state of Florida was as the winner of that state decided the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore.

Aside from Florida, other swing states are Ohio with 18 votes, Wisconsin with 10, Iowa and Nevada have six each.

Check out the list of each state and its number of electoral votes.

Some states will conclude voting at around 7 p.m.
