The Baylor Bears have lost starting quarterback Seth Russell to a neck injury and he will be out for the rest of the 2015 season, as he needs surgery to repair the injury. The team announced the news on Monday and it came after Russell injured his cervical vertebra in the game against Iowa State on Saturday.
Baylor announced that Russell will undergo surgery and that the usual recovery time from the procedure is six months. Stidham now will take over at quarterback as a true freshman after being the backup for Russell this season. Stidham has played in every game this season and has put up some solid numbers with an 85 percent completion rate and six touchdowns.
The Bears have been looked at as a playoff contender and now they will have to move forward without their starting quarterback. The team is undefeated this season and Corey Coleman had put up some huge numbers along with Shock Linwood, who is leading the Big 12 conference in rushing. Coleman has 18 touchdowns to lead the nation and Baylor has one of the toughest schedules coming up the rest of the season. The team has games against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU and overall they have the seventh toughest schedule coming up.
The Bears next play against Kansas State and Stidham will take over for that game for Russell, who was leading the nation with 29 touchdowns this season. Russell had 2104 passing yards and just six interceptions this season.
