The Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers are playing their season opener on the NBA schedule on Wednesday and the game is on TV from ESPN and live on the WatchESPN website. The Lakers host at the Staples Center and the game starts at 10:30 pm ET as the second game of a double header.
The Lakers come into the game looking to improve over last season and they made a number of additions for Kobe Bryant, including Roy Hibbert, Brandon Bass and Lou Williams. The team drafted D'Angelo Russell and he will start alongside Bryant for the opening game of the season. Jordan Clarkson, Hibbert and Julius Thomas are the other starters and Byron Scott is looking for the team to improve on both ends of the floor.
The Timberwolves comes into the season after winning 16 games and the draft lottery this season and they took Karl-Anthony Towns with that pick. Towns and Russell will face off in this game and the Wolves come in after losing Flip Saunders this past week to cancer. Kevin Garnett and the team will honor Saunders this year and the Lakers also wore special warm up shirts before the game.
Sam Mitchell has taken over the team this year and the roster has a young core along with Garnett, Andre Miller and Tayshaun Prince. The Lakers had 21 wins last season and Bryant did not play much after suffering a shoulder injury and he will be looking to stay healthy. Bryant missed time over the last few seasons and he will be looking to have a full year on the court or something close to it.
