The Denver Broncos are coming into Week 8 undefeated and the team may have Ronnie Hillman as the starter at running back over CJ Anderson after the way he has played recently. Peyton Manning is looking to have the offense rebound after some struggles and the team may also get DeMarcus Ware back after the defensive end dealt with an injury.
The Broncos offense has not been as potent as it has been in recent years and Peyton Manning has struggled at times this season, showing his age a bit. Gary Kubiak said that the team is not considering making a change at quarterback and the Associated Press quoted Manning saying he is "committed" to getting the offense going. Manning is getting up there in age, but he still has the ability to get wins and so far the team has not suffered a defeat.
The defense has played very well and one thing that could help the offense is a more consistent rushing game. CJ Anderson has been the starter, but he has struggled early in the season and Ronnie Hillman has been performing better for the Broncos. According to ESPN.com, reporter Jeff Legwold reports that Hillman could be in line to start coming out of the bye week. Hillman may get some work in practice as the number one back, as he has been playing better than Anderson in recent weeks.
Hillman had 111 yards in his last game and he has put up 100 yards in two of his past three games, including 103 yards against the Vikings. Hillman has more yards overall than Anderson, who has been averaging just 2.7 yards per carry this season. Hillman had more carries and yards in the last game and that could push him into the starting lineup for this week.
The Broncos saw Ware get injured against the Raiders in Week 6 and while he was carted off the field, the injury was not considered serious. According to Pro Football Talk, the Broncos could get Ware back for the Week 8 game against the Packers after he dealt with back spasms against the Raiders. Ware missed the game against the Browns and had the bye week to rest and recover and there is a chance he could play on Sunday.
PFT reports that Ware was able to participate in practice on a limited basis and that could set him up to play this weekend. The team is dealing with some injuries on defense, as Shane Ray is out for the game with a knee injury and getting Ware back would be a big boost. Some other injuries for the Broncos listed coming into the weekend include Evan Mathis, Emmanuel Sanders and Aqib Talib, who all were participants on a limited basis in practice.
The Broncos and Packers come into the Week 8 matchup undefeated and unless a tie happens, one of these teams will be leaving with a loss on Sunday night.
